iPad can’t do a hard shut down

The apple logo appears then disappears leaving blank screen - blank screen stays up couple of seconds and then starts all over again - even if let go dead and plug up power cord and it starts all over again. Need help 😳 thank you

Try the third suggestion in this support article. If you still have no luck, it’s probably time to contact Apple for help.

I have no idea what a hard shut down is. Have you tried a forced restart?


  • iPad models that don't have a Home button: Press and quickly release the Volume Up button. Press and quickly release the Volume Down button. Then press and hold the Power button until the device restarts.
  • iPad with Home button, iPhone 6s or earlier, and iPod touch (6th generation) or earlier: Press and hold both the Home and the Top (or Side) buttons until you see the Apple logo.
