Unsyncing apps from iPad to iPhone

Why are apps I download onto my iphone being downloaded to my iPad at the same time they both have the same Apple ID. Is there a setting I can change to ‘unsync’ them from each other just in the aspect of apps. Because I do have storage I just find it very bothersome to have the same apps on both devices, or have to go and delete the apps from each device. Please Help. Thank You

If your App purchases are automatically downloaded to your devices, but you would prefer to manually install only on some devices, you can change this setting:

Settings > App Store > [Automatic Downloads] Apps - set to OFF

You can similarly change the corresponding setting for App Updates:

Settings > App Store > [Automatic Downloads] App Updates set to OFF
