Why Airplay is so unstable?
Works on and off, freezes, very frustrating. Rather not use it but a lot of apps relies on it now. Please make Airplay fun.

I do have a TV antenna, I play video game on my iPad everywhere in my appartement and rarely have any issus with my WiFi signal. How robust does it need to be to work flawlessly? From my point of view, AirPlay is not reliable.

Any instability of AirPlay is likely to be caused by your WiFi connectivity - such as poor/obstructed signal, or perhaps radio interference.
When used on a robust WiFi network, AirPlay is generally very reliable.
What lots of apps rely on AirPlay?
Apps on my iPad like ICI TOUT.TV, TVA+, Virgin TV app, Amazon Video Prime.
What are you Airplaying to? Directly to a TV, to an Apple TV device, something else?

From my iPad 6 to my Roku Stick+.
The Roku stick could be the problem. Check the device for updates and reboot it. Make sure the Roku stick is connecting to the 5GHz band of your wifi and contact Roku support for more help.
