In System Preferences >> User & Group >> lower Left is a Padlock >> Click the Padlock to open it >> Will require Computer Password ( the same Password use when first starting the computer ) - then you can make changes. Once Done - reClick the Padlock to save changes.

If Password is rejected Change or reset the password of a macOS user account
