If you have a recent Sony TV, it may natively support AirPlay:

Use AirPlay to stream video or mirror your device’s screen – Apple Support

A further alternative might be to consider purchase of an AppleTV box - which you connect to the TV via HDMI - and use AirPlay to stream from your iPad.
