inherited ipad mini, can't unlock, mom is deceased

Help!


I have inherited my mom's iPad mini. I believe it is first generation. Model A1432.


Of course it is locked and I have not been able to find her Apple ID, password, etc. Activation Help screen on setup says I need to contact the original owner. She is deceased. Is there any way to wipe this and start fresh or do I throw it in the landfill? I would like to re-activate and give it to one of my kids.


Any help would be appreciated.

Contact Apple. They need to see a copy of the death certificate and a copy of the will or a document that shows you inherited it.
