The red number on the photos icon is set because someone shared some new photos, and I've looked at them and used those new photos, but the number is still there. What makes that number go away? Seems like once I've acted on the information it should go away.

Never mind. I was able to clear it by looking at the photos on my iPhone. Then it went away on the Mac and iPhone photos icon.
