How can one pause and resume a video recording session?

Hello,

How can one pause a video recording session and then resume recording that video? I want, while recording a video, to be able to pause that recording and then later resume that video recording appending onto the end of that recording.

There are "HOWTOs" online that claim that in QuickTime, if you hold down the option key the "stop recording button" turns into a "pause recording button". However, those "HOWTOs" refer to a rather old version of QuickTime/macOS. Under macOS 11, holding down the option key appears to have no effect while video recording.

Is there a way to pause and resume video recording under QuickTime in macOS 11? If not, is there a way to do that in Photo Booth? Or is there a 3rd party app that works with macOS 11 that allows one to pause and resume video recording?

Thank you,

chongo (Landon Curt Noll) /\oo/\

Hey there chongolcn2,

Thank you for posting in Apple Support Communities.

It sounds like you want to pause a recording, and then resume it without creating multiple QuickTime files. We can provide guidance.

There isn't a way to stop and then resume recording with one file. If you'd like to leave feedback about this, please do so here: Feedback - QuickTime - Apple

There is a workaround you can try. To add a new recording to a previously saved one, you can follow the steps here: Add a movie or clip in QuickTime Player on Mac

This will allow you to add multiple recordings to one file.

Have a great day!
