Why is it that, for years and years now, each and every question which is clearly referring to a forgotten PIN (a 4-digit PIN) gets wrongly and uselessly answered with a lengthy response to a forgotten passcode??!?? I am at a complete loss as to how – for years – dozens of inattentive readers completely ignore the words “4-digit PIN” and, with all good intentions offer a completely useless answer which only deals with forgotten passcodes or passwords. (Sorry if I sound frustrated, but I very much am!)
A passcode is the code one uses to access an Apple device. A PIN, whether 4- or 6- digit, is one type of passcode. Apple also permits you to set an alphanumeric passcode if you wish. All PINs, when used in Apple’s context, are passcodes.
A password, by contrast, refers to what secures an Apple ID.
Indeed the readers are not “inattentive”. They are actually correct.
