how to improve the audio in a video

Hi all,


I have some simple .MP4 videos - that I would like to improve the audio on.


Currently I am on Catalina w iMovie 10


I see that I can import them into iMovie, then I could raise or lower the volume manually as needed. However I was hoping for something a bit more automated like an audio plug-in that could normalize / maximize / limit with basic settings like you can do in a music application.


I am wondering if there is a plug-in available for iMovie that can do this kind of audio normalization process?


Is Final Cut Pro needed for this process?


Or possibly some other simple video application that could do this basic audio functionality?

iMovie does not accept third party plug-ins, or any plug-ins as far as I know. Final Cut Pro probably has more advanced audio editing tools than iMovie, being a professional application, although I have not used FCP myself. There are several audio editing apps offered in the online app store that you could check out. I am not personally familiar with any of them.


However, there are controls in imovie where you can improve the audio. Here are some online help links that describe the sound features:
