Years of photos missing after ios 14 update

My iphone 11 updated last week to ios 14.4.2 and now I have years of photos missing from my phone and icloud. My son's hospital pictures at his birth, baby photos, everything. Years 2007-2016 have either no photos, or only the photos that I saved to my phone from online. Any photo I took with the phone before early 2016 is gone from both the phone and cloud. My deleted photos folder is empty, I have no hidden photos.


Is there a way to restore the photos?

Can I find an old backup before the update?


I am heart sick that these photos are gone. Please help.
