fan runs constantly

I have a 27" late 2019 model iMac running 11.2.3 macOS Big Sur. I purchased it last April and had no issues with it until 2 months ago. At first I thought my old external HD was going out so I replaced it, later I realized it was my computer. In over 9 months the fan has never kicked on no mater how many things I was running. Now it runs even with everything shut down and no programs open. also have noticed a slow down and an inability to be able to rub Final Cut, have to use iMovie to do anything. Have called apple support several times only to be told this is normal for the fan to run, if its normal why did it wait 9 months to start! I am extremely frustrated and no longer enjoy using my computer, I am wishing I would not have spent the money and kept my old 2009 unit which worked better than this one is now.
