Mac Mini M1 - 2015 iMac 27" as a monitor.

Wondering how we can use our 2015 iMac with our M1 mini.

I have an M1 mini and use an apple cinema display with a usb-c to thunderbolt 2 adapter : https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DRQYWPD/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

and that setup works fine.

I tried that adapter with the M1 / 2015 iMac and it's not working. I'm pressing command f2 on the keyboard and nothing. The iMac has 2 thunderbolt 2 ports, Could it possible I have the wrong thunderbolt cable?

Would something like this work:

It will not work because neither of those Mac’s support Target Display Mode.

I have moved up from a 2011 iMac. 24" to the M1 mini. Was told that the High Sierra OS in target mode "might" allow the M1 mini to use the iMac as its monitor. Did not work so I have added a late model Dell U2412M monitor with a display port to usb C adapter and M1 is fine. The iMac will be relegated to using its Windows 10 partition (alter ego).
