Late 2017 MacBook Pro 15” screen lines and flickering

My Late 2017 MacBook Pro 15” screen has white horizontal lines and flickering vertical bands that indicate a faulty connection. Has anyone had screen hinge problems that affect the screen display? Apparently repair is complete $900 screen replacement but I find this excessive and likely a more common underlying problem for a 4-year old first “new case” model introduction.

There are some reported issue with the projector cable on 2017 15" MBP, not enough to warrant a service program. Therefore out of pocket repair at this time.

Attaching an external screen with no issues would rule out GPU.

There is nothing wrong with GPU as confirmed by an external screen and a screenshot while it was acting up with white flickering lines. How does one direct AppleCare to simply replace the known faulty projector cable when they claim an entirely new screen package is needed at $900? This should be a warranty service program issue because the current out of pocket solution is excessive and costly to 2017 15” MBP owners.
