Why can't I select my disk to erase in order to reset my macbook?

I am resetting my macbook pro 15 2018, and followed the steps on Apples article.

Once I get to the final step of going to utilities>Disk Utility>choose your machintosh HD > select erase...


I am not able to click on the erase button. My screenshot shows below:

Are you trying to erase Macintosh HD from within a running system?

You can only do that from the recovery environment, not the running system.
