Blacklisted IMEI

I bought a new iPhone 12 from someone on gumtree in January (was told this was an unwanted Xmas present) the phone was in all it original packaging and unopened, has only ever been registered in my name, it has been working fine until today and now doesn’t pick up a signal upon further investigation if found that it has been blacklisted, so my question is can this be removed from the list?

But now I’m reading that a seller can potentially report the phone lost or stolen anytime and it could be blacklisted. is there any way to prevent that from happening? Can I get my iPhone 12 Pro Max off the blacklist if I’m not the original owner and have bought it online I’ve just called the carrier that the iPhone is connected to and they just said that I have to contact the person who had the iPhone before me. Which I have no idea who it is, and they didn’t help me understand why or how it was blacklisted in the first place. If I can get some help if it’s possible to get it off the blacklist it would be greatly appreciated

You will have to contact the carrier that blacklisted the phone to find out why it was blacklisted and if it would be possible to activate it. There is nothing else you can do to be able to use it.
