Garage Band on Catalina: can't re-download compatible version

Greetings,

I have a MacBook Air running Catalina, the latest OS with which it is compatible. I used to run Garage Band 6.0.5, but now I need a newer version as this one won't open any more.

What I have done:

Went to the App Store, signed in, clicked on Garage Band which had "Open" next to it. Nothing happened.

Then, I deleted Garage Band 6.0.5. The App Store then showed a Cloud next to Garage Band-- clicking here should have downloaded a Catalina-compatible version. It did not-- I again have 6.0.5.

What next?
