How to get notifications from maps when on a different screen

Does this issue persist if you use the native Apple Maps app or does it just happen with Google Maps?

If you're going to the radio screen, you are not just leaving the map screen, you are leaving CarPlay entirely. CarPlay can't override that.

You should be able to go to the radio, tune whatever you want, then go back to CarPlay and have the radio continue to play while you navigate.
