If Ports Aren't Working:

  • Boot in Safe Mode:

[Hold Down: shift key, upon boot], In Safe ModeLogin Items do not run at login, certain preferences are set aside, and damaged system files are then reset. So, once booted in to Safe Mode, wait 30 seconds, and then boot up normally, attempting another update install.

  • Try a New Admin User:

What happens when you create a new administrator user, and log int it? Do you still get this error? If not, then it is likely an erro with the current user. If so, then it is likely an error with your Mac.

Sometimes when changes are made to the system(i.e. Updates), system configurations (i.e. for Ports) become manipulated, technically. So, reset the SMC and NVRAM. Try performing each thrice. It may take some time, being certain you have the time to perform these resets.

Hi,

If drivers from HP (https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-envy-7640-e-all-in-one-printer-series/6617267/model/6779508) do not allow a USB connection with your computer and operating system, you may have to try a wireless connection. The HP ENVY 7640 e-All-in-One Printer series is mentioned in About AirPrint - Apple Support as supporting the driverless AirPrint technology. The ENVY 7645 e-All-in-One is also mentioned in https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-envy-7640-e-all-in-one-printer-series/6617267/model/6779508/document/ish_2843711-2427128-16 . Specifications can be found at https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-envy-7640-e-all-in-one-printer-series/6617267/model/6779508/document/c05039609 . AirPrint means that the printer is compatible with macOS and should work without drivers when connected to a network (the same network as the computer).
