My iPad stops working after about five minutes when it’s fully charged and unplugged. It starts again shortly after plugging it in. Do I need a new battery?

My IPad stops working after a few minutes when it’s unplugged, even if it’s fully charged. It comes back on a few minutes after I plug it back in. It works while it’s plugged in, it has blacked out a couple of time while plugged in too.

Since it has gone black while on power I would try Recovery Mode first. If that does not help then have it tested at an Apple Store. Here are the steps for Recovery Mode:
