contacts on my iPhone8 have disappeared. How to get them back

Thank you for the help. I spent several hours trying to make anything work, and I could not get my contacts back....but they were in iCloud. Finally I had a phone conversation with a very nice young man and he spent some time finding my contacts and then helping me get them back where they should be....so I am very thankful for all the great people who help me when I have problems. I really do depend on my phone.! Thanks again.
