Menu bar overlaps items on desktop

Lately, my menu bar has started to overlap objects on my desktop. When automatically sorted, new folders etc. are placed very far up on the screen, and end up partially below the menu bar. This is quite annoying, and I have to turn off auto sorting and manually drag them further down.

In the System preferences I have turned off Show and Hide Menu bar Automatically, but in Finder, the menu bar hides anyway. This is probably why the folders are placed too far up on the screen. And when another app is activated, the menu bar comes down and partially hides the uppermost items.

An update to Catalina 10.15.7 solved the problem :-)
