will 21.5 mid-2011 iMac work in target mode with 2009 mac-mini?

Can I connect a 2009 mac-mini (el capitan) with 21.5-inch 2011 iMac (high sierra) using Target Display Mode?



mac-mini has mini-display port; iMac has Thunderbolt port. What cable do I use?

Use your iMac as a display with target display mode - Apple Support


Your iMac needs Thunderbolt video if used as a display. Your Mac mini has Mini DisplayPort. Although Mini DisplayPort and Thunderbolt use the same plugs there is no way to get Thunderbolt video from Mini DisplayPort. A Mini DisplayPort display will work with a Thunderbolt computer, but not the other way around.
