No playback, plugins or instruments whatsoever?

This randomly happened in the middle of a session. Suddenly there are NO plugins or instruments to choose from whatsoever, I can't get any playback on existing projects and when I try to open a new project it won't let me add any tracks so the program is essentially completely unusable. I've restarted several times and shut my mac down overnight. I have so many projects in progress and I can't bear to lose them. Anyone got any ideas?
