I just upgraded operating system and now I cannot open several apps

with catalina macos can no longer run 32bit applications, if the developer of your unworking apps does not offer an 64bit version then you can't use the said apps anymore, unless you downgrade to mojave

Check with St. Clair Software (stclairsoft.com). They have a "GO64" program that will tell you which of your apps are 32 bit and thus won't run on a 64 bit operating system.
