widgets remain fixed in Cupertino even though everything is correct in system preferences

Big Sur widget issue. The time zone is correct in system preferences but the widget clock remains set for Cupertino. Similarly, I can't seem to edit the weather widget - it also has remained fixed for Cupertino.

you need to manually change your widgets. you first need to "control click" on the widget you want to change, (clock for this example). then choose "edit clock"

the widget (clock) will flip over. click on "cupertino".

then you click on the "search" field.

type in the city of your choice. if that city is not in apple's database, you will need to choose your nearby largest city.

the steps are similar for "weather"

How to customize Control Center

  1. Choose Apple menu  > System Preferences, then click Dock & Menu Bar.
  2. Select an item in the sidebar.
  3. Use the controls to choose whether to show the item in the menu bar, in Control Center, or both.
    • Some items always appear in Control Center. Other items, such as Accessibility Shortcuts, Battery, and Fast User Switching, can be added or removed.
    • Some items, such as Do Not Disturb and Sound, can be set to show in the menu bar always or only when active.
    • The preview area on the right shows the fixed position of each item in Control Center.
