Moving Motion Templates folder to an external drive? (Big Sur)

Hi,

I need to move my Motion Templates folder to an external drive to free up some space in my internal drive.

I've found a solution in this forum that worked in macos Catalina, which is the following:

1) Drag the Motion Templates folder to an external hard drive

2) Delete the original folder from Movies folder

3) Open Terminal

4) Type cd ~/Movie and press enter

5) Type ln -s /Volumes/ExternalDriveName/Motion\ Templates.localized Motion\ Templates.localized

6) Press enter.

Do you think this solution will also work in Big Sur? I don't want to mess up with FCPX since I'm using it for work. Any help will be appreciated.

I just followed the instructions and launched FCPX to verify that everything is working properly. Everything worked perfectly. Finally my hard drive has a lot more space available. Thank you so much for your support!

I've got a 500GB HDD and my Motion Templates folder was over 300GB. I've just purchased a 4TB OWC ThunderBlade with a thunderbolt 3 to thunderbolt 2 adapter! It's the best Thunderbolt external ssd drive, amazing!

I need help! After migrating my Motion Templates to the external hdd, I found out that all of the effects, transitions, titles and generators from MotionVFX and Pixel Film Studios are disappeared within FCPX. I mean, they are correctly inside the Motion Templates folder I migrated to the external drive, but FCPX doesn't see 'em!

Can somebody please help me?

Update:

Opening my Movies Folder I found out that FCPX re-created the motion templates folder with only the effects, generators, transition and titles that are visible in FCPX. Everytime I try to delete it, FCPX keeps on recreating the folder!

2nd Update: fixed! It was just a syntax error in terminal. Re-applied the command with the right syntax and everything is working just fine! My MotionVFX and Pixel Film Studios titles, generators, effects and transitions are back where they belong!
