Trying to install updates and is wanting a passcode? I have never had a passcode.
On my iPad there is an update available. In the past all I had to do was click on the update button and it would automatically update. This time when I do that, I’m asked to enter a passcode? Never have had to do that before. It automatically did it.
Are you referring to an iPadOS update. If so, that should be the passcode for your iPad, the one you use to unlock the screen.
What is the exact message you are seeing? Are you logged into your App Store account?
