iPhone permanent home location

How does my iPhone know my permanent home location? I can't find any information regarding this and one of my apps is not sensing when I am home or away.

iPhone 12, iOS 14

Go to Settings/Siri & Search - My Information. Also in the Maps app, Favorites and verify your Home entry.

Are you suggesting that I have to create myself as a contact in order for home and away to work properly?

I’m not suggesting it, I’m saying that is how you define your home location, by creating a contact card for yourself.
