I'm sorry to hear about your experience.

Apple did operate customer services in lockdown and you should have been able to access mail-in repair options > Get Support. Sadly despite the government lockdowns, the standard 12-month warranty can not be extended.

In future, you can purchase Apple's extended warranty, Apple Care, however, you must purchase this with the device or within 60 day's of purchasing the device which covers the device for 2 years. Apple Care also covers accidental damage, for example if you cracked your screen, you would be able to get it repaired with a small excess fee.

AppleCare Products - Apple (UK)

What is the problem with your phone, maybe you can ask support for help? If you need a repair, you should be able to access one, although as your device is out of warranty this may be chargeable.
