how can I get the version 9 or 8 of iMovie because I have a high Sierra Mac

Read the thread in the link below, particularly the post by spectre_ghost halfway through the thread, for a way to obtain iMovie 9:

iMovie 9, and presumably iMovie 8, became increasingly dysfunctional starting with Mavericks OS. Those legacy programs are no longer being sold. If you can do so, try updating to the most current version of iMovie 10 that your OS will run. You can find the method in the above link to the thread that I mentioned.
