My macbook isn't working properly

Haven't used my macbook for quite a while and I tried to open it last night, battery was drained so I tried to charge it for an hour but it shows it's charging but won't go up so then I decided to charge it overnight and it's still the same. Everytime i plug out the charger from it, it dies. I can only use it while it's plugged. What do I do and what happened to my macbook?

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 11.2

There are several articles and relevant experience factors to troubleshoot.

Several older (in some ways, better) articles were rolled into newer ones..

• Get help with your Mac notebook battery - Apple Support

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204054

Be sure to check the connectors & peripheral components as they age.

If you have an Intel-based Macreset the SMC.
