How can I backup iPhone while it's locked and disabled?

I forgot the password to my iPhone X and am now locked out. How do I back it up while not being able to unlock my phone? I am waiting for it to automatically backup to iCloud, but it says the backup is incomplete when I checked on my computer. Does that mean a backup cannot be completed unless it's unlocked?

Yeah, you can't back up your device when it is disabled unfortunately, the backup would need to be taken before it is disabled

If your device is disabled or you forgot your passcode, you will need to erase your device

Follow the steps in this article:

If you have a backup you can restore it from that
