I have an iMAC-27 from late 2009 running OS X El Capitan v10.11.6. Can I upgrade to Big Sur or is there another updated OS I can go to?

Thanks, very good so far. Everything works except one item. I can't login/sync icloud email. Directs me to set password in settings but can't find the right area to make this change.
