2020 iMac 27" RAM Speed

So Apple specifies.

  • PC4-21333 / Most sellers list this as PC4-21300
  • Unbuffered and nonparity
  • 260-pin 2666 MHz DDR4 SDRAM / System Report apps shows 2667

Ive been looking at benchmark scores at https://browser.geekbench.com/v5/cpu/search?page=1&q=iMac+%2827-inch+Retina+Mid+2020%29 .

Looking at 3.8Ghz iMac's I see some reports listing the ram speed as being 2933Mhz and 3200Mhz. The fastest Geekbench scores for the 3.8Ghz iMac list these faster ram modules.

Intel's specs for the 10th Gen Core i7 shows 2933Mhz ram as the fastest spec. I know in Mac's Ive had in the past you could install faster modules that would down-clock to what the computer clocked it to. I'm kind of disappointed with my new machine as the benchmark score is quite low compared to what I'm seeing as the average for my model. Mine has 8GB at the moment and I want to order a 2x16GB kit. Anyone have any knowledge on this for the 2020 iMac?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities.

This is what will work:

  • C4-21333
  • Unbuffered
  • Nonparity
  • 260-pin
  • 2666MHz DDR4 SDRAM

Macs are very picky about RAM, and only Crucial RAM works well and reliably in your model. I suggest you go to Crucial and get the correct exact spec RAM.
