I agree with you. DiskWarrior is second to none rebuilding the directory of HFS+ disks and bringing them to life when all other utilities (including Apple Disk Utility - Fist Aid) fail and even damage more the disk. The problem is that DiskWarrior does not support APFS disks because Apple has not released the required documentation and API. The same can be said for the other two disk utilities: TechTool Pro and Drive Genius. It is true that APFS is much more robust than HFS+, but it would be great to have DiskWarrior to rebuild its directory, just in case it is needed.

Hi FusionFarm,

Thanks for contacting the Apple Support Communities today! We understand you're having issues with your external drive not mounting when connected to your MacBook Pro, and we'd be happy to provide you with some steps that may help.

To get started, we'd recommend working through any steps you may not have already tried in this resource here: If a USB device doesn’t work with Mac - Apple Support

Also if possible, would you have an opportunity to test the external drive with another computer?

If still having issues after the steps above, and since you are getting a 'repair failed' error when running First Aid through Disk Utility, it is possible that the external drive may need to be replaced. Fore more details, check out this additional link here: Repair a storage device in Disk Utility on Mac - Apple Support

We hope this is able to help.

Best regards.
