Passcode for erasing all data

I am trying to erase all my content and settings on my iphone to trade back into Apple, however the passcode is not either of my normal codes and I keep getting locked out. Does anyone know when I would have set this up or if there is a default code (tried 0000 and 1234)? Or if there is another way around this?

Thanks,

iPhone 8

Please see If you forgot the passcode on your iPhone, or your iPhone is disabled - Apple Support

The process described there will erase your phone, which is what you want to do.
