Change Password on MacBook Pro

My IPhone had a security breach and I changed the password immediately (is changing the password enough to do at this point, after the security breach, in order to keep the phone safe at this time?). What I did next is a perfect example of my ignorance. I went to my MacBook Pro to see if the new password applied to it as well. I wanted to change it if not. I then put in the new password, the one I created for my

IPhone, and I pushed "Next" and it will not download. The "swirling icon" (embarrassed I do not know what it is actually called) will not stop and I am not able to get to the next step. If I have made myself clear enough to understand, what is the best thing to do now? Thank You So Very Much

Hello Captain2011,

Thank you for posting in Apple Support communities. We understand that you are having trouble updating your password on your Mac after you changed it on your iPhone due to a security breach. We would love to provide you support on this.

We need more information to help you properly.

-First, what indicates a security breach? We ask this because there are scams that tell you that you have a security issue.

Recognize and avoid phishing messages, phony support calls, and other scams

-Secondly, which password did you change? We ask this because there is a passcode that unlocks your iPhone and there is an Apple ID password that unlocks your Apple ID account.

Change your Apple ID password

Use a passcode with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

-Lastly, If you change the passcode on your iPhone it does not change it on your Mac, however if you use the same Apple ID on your Mac and you change the password from your phone you are asked a question about logging out of other devices. If you selected the option to log out of other devices then you would have to put the new password in on your Mac by following the procedure above that is titled "Change Apple ID password". You can follow the section that says "On Your Mac".

Thank you for allowing us to support you.

Have an awesome and productive day!
