iPads Apple ID.

Hi, my kids have iPads which they currently use my husbands Apple ID. I’m wanting to change it so they can have their own individual one. How do I do that?

When changing to the new ID, there may be some data loss, but you can minimize it. If syncing photos with iCloud, ensure Optimization is turned off in Settings/Your Name/iCloud/Photos and/or in Photos/Preferences/iCloud. Then make sure full resolution photos are on the device/computer. When signing out of iCloud, if asked whether you want to retain data, choose yes. Messages conversations will be lost if they are addressed to the ID. See the article below for other places that the old ID should be removed. See Winston Churchill's response in the below discussion. If possible, also set up Family Sharing  between the IDs to keep access to your apps/purchases.

Hello bwilesmith,

Please do not feel you should not read the post I made since it is the one that addresses your question about how to create Apple IDs for your children. If these are minor children, or you wish to use some of the added features Apple has for managing child accounts, those links also talk about Family Sharing. The switching IDs document at imore.com also somewhat duplicates what is in the Apple document about setting up a child's phone but the Apple document is also more child-oriented. It is actually upon the things in the first reply that the later reply then builds in terms of getting some items from your husband's account to the children's accounts.
