Keynote exporting images at double resolution

When copying an image or graphic from keynote and pasting it in another piece of software such as preview or krita for further processing, it doubles the resolution that it was on the slide itself, meaning a 512x512 image, for example, will be pasted as a 1024x1024.

This has only been happening for around a year and slows down workflow considerably as I have to work with 4 times as many pixels. Strangely, when saving the pasted image and then dragging that back into Keynote, its "original size" is back to what it was on Keynote in the first place.

To create a duplicate of an image on a slide in Keynote; click on the image to select, then go to Inspector / Format /Image and drag the images icon to the desktop.
