Accessing home printer after Big Sur update

My school's tech team recently updated my MacBook Pro to Big Sur. In the process, I seem to have lost the ability to print from my home computer, Canon MP190. How do I access a software update that will enable me to print from my home printer again?

If it is listed as AirPrint printer, delete the existing printer in

> System Preferences> Printers & Scanners, and add it again, select AirPrint.

Unfortunately, the Canon PIXMA MP190 is not a model supporting the driverless AirPrint technology (About AirPrint - Apple Support).


To begin with, it may be a good idea to reset the printing system, as also mentioned by leroydouglas. Does the operating system offer a suitable driver to use when (re-)adding the printer?

The Canon support pages for the MP190 do not appear to have printer drivers for anything later than OS X 10.10 Yosemite:

There have been a few reports about older Canon drivers used with some other models even under Big Sur, but do not expect it to work. If you try it, look upon it as an experiment. If you proceed, make sure that you have (multiple) backup copies of all important files (documents, photos, et cetera). Software conflicts cannot be ruled out when testing drivers. Data may be lost.
