mac book pro screen has strange white image in background on start up.…

What would cause a foreign image of large ghost white letters on a black screen to show up behind my start up I.d. image? Is this a hack of some sort? The letters spell “entinel”. Also safe startup is blocked.

MacBook Pro 15″, OS X 10.11

"Hack"...this would be my very last guess, it makes no sense to me.


Uninstall all third party apps that are Cleaners/Optimizers/Anti-Virus,

all these are known to cause issues on the macOS.



I would simply try a safe boot to clear system caches files and see if your issue resolves:
