Donating MacBook to someone in Africa

I have a 6 year old MacBook Pro that I’m giving to someone in Africa - I plan to wipe and rebuild to clear my info off. Any advice on what OS and other software makes most sense to load. They’ll clearly need to get their own apps and software but want to give them a good foundation. Any advice?
