After I use the search function in Mac Mail, highlight the email I wish to view, then x-out the search term, Mail does not remain on the email selected from the search results. Mail resorts to the last email I had selected prior to the search. In the past, Mail would remain on the email selected after the search results. How can I restore this function?

I think I've found the answer—seems that I selected "mailboxes" instead of "all inboxes." (I'd delete my original post but don't see that as an option.)
