I can’t hook my iPad with my text messages on my phone

Follow these instructions: How to forward SMS/MMS text messages from your iPhone to your iPad, iPod touch or Mac

If you don't, Go to Settings > Messages, turn off iMessage, turn it back on, tap Send & Receive, tap Use Your Apple ID for iMessage, then sign in with the same Apple ID used on your other devices.

You should see this setting:

It's at Settings > Messages > Text Message Forwarding on your phone

Make sure both devices are signed into the same Apple ID.
