I'm not running iMovie 10.2.5, so can't get a visual of the user interface. Sometimes current iterations make changes in the interface and the tutorials may not have been updated. That would be particularly true if the tutorials are made by third parties and not Apple.

There are a lot of tutorials out there pertaining to iMovie 9, not 10, and iMovie 9 does indeed have a totally different interface and architecture than iMovie 10

Usually Apple updates its official tutorials. Here's a link to Apple's help menu for iMovie 10. See if it matches what you see in iMovie 10.2.5.

Hmmm. Your 2019 MacBook Pro should be plenty fast, unless you have the i5 processor or a very low end graphics card.

Try the procedures below and see if that speeds things up. They are very easy to do. Basically just a matter of shutting down and rebooting while holding down certain keys.

Resetting

the System Management Controller

Try resetting the System Management Controller (but no longer available for the new M1 computers):

Resetting the NVRAM or PRAM

Good day Rich,

thanks again for your help. I followed the procedures you suggested and things are running a lot better now. I do have to say though, that overall I'm kinda disappointed with my MacPro 16"....I had an old iMac (2011) and even it seemed to be able to handle iMovie much better than my 2019 Pro....

I'm grateful for your assistance and will see how things unfold in the days to come.

Regards,

Steve
