Usb-C to lightning cable to connect keyboard to iPad

I connected one end of usb-c to lightning cable to my iPad and the other end to a keyboard (without using any adapters). Can it break my usb-c to lighting cable? I mainly use it for my iPhone.

Lightning in Lightning and USB-C in USB-C should be (damage-free) fine.

Working or not being another discussion.

You’d need a dongle or two to connect that iPad to a USB-whichever keyboard.

Or use Bluetooth.

Apple has some options, as do other vendors…

Various iPad Pro models have a USB-C socket.

Most (all?) iPad models have Lightning socket.

Identify your iPad model - Apple Support

Apple sells a USB-C to Lightning cable, with a USB-C connector and a Lightning connector.

Apple also sells a USB-A to Lightning cable.

Many keyboards have USB-A connectors, some have USB-C connectors or USB-C sockets, and various Apple keyboards have Lightning sockets.

If you’re mismatching connectors and sockets, then yes, that can cause hardware damage.

As long as the USB-C connector went into USB-C on the iPad Pro and the Lightning connector into the Lightning socket on the keyboard, prolly no damage.

I’ve used the keyboard charging cables with a Mac with no issues. That’s the set-up and keyboard-charging configuration.

If this is a battery-powered Lightning-connected Magic Keyboard model keyboard that uses Bluetooth, try charging the keyboard and connecting with that.

iPad usually uses Bluetooth or smart connector for the keyboard.
