I am trying to connect a new (purchased 9/21) MacBook to an external Display monitor, Dell U2412Mb.

I am trying to connect a new (purchased 9/21) MacBook to an external Display monitor, Dell U2412Mb.

I am using a Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter from Apple.

I amusing a standard Display port cable E342987 to connect to the Dell monitor.

The Dell monitor is not being detected by the Displays section of System Preferences.

This cable and monitor worked well on my previous MacBook from 2012.

Any suggestions?

Thanks. David

The Thunderbolt adapter can't be used with non-Thunderbolt displays.

Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter - Apple

"This adapter does not support DisplayPort displays like the Apple LED Cinema Display or third-party DisplayPort and Mini DisplayPort displays."

You need a USB C to DisplayPort Cable, such as:
