Apple TV (model A1469), no place to enter two-factor authentication code

Asks for Apple ID password, upon entering my iPhone asks me to allow,. When I do so,I get a verification code, will no place to enter. Early discussions along this topic said to get a verification code first (Settings > MyName > Password & Security) and add to the end of my Apple ID password. Tried that, then Apple TV said I had entered the wrong password.

If you have an Apple TV (2nd or 3rd generation) and two-factor authentication for your Apple ID, then you may be asked to type your password followed by the six-digit verification code directly into the password field. Additionally, there is a time limit, after which the code becomes invalid.

Try this: First enter the characters of your password (do not submit yet), then manually request a new verification code, then append that code to the password (no spaces or other separating characters), and then submit. That should help you get passed the time limit.

As that is EXACTLY what didn't work the first time (and definitely within less than ten seconds, much less than the 30 second time limit, this reply is not helpful. Only difference between my problem and your answer is "...then you MAY be asked to type your password followed by the six-digit verification code directly into the password field. ". I was asked only for a password.
