How do I change the name of a device?

How do I change the name of a device listed under my Apple ID. I already changed it on my device, but it stills shows … #3 under the Apple ID.

Try signing out and back in again to get iCloud to refresh, or may just wait a while and see if it eventually gets changed.

(Note, the title of this document is misleading since the first half tells you how to do it on a device itself without a computer.)
